Walter Wellborn completed the 2015 season with a 6-4 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region six, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. The Panthers open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Saks on Friday, August 26 at Jack Stewart Field. Last year the Saks Wildcats finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in second place in Class 4A region six. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to West Limestone by a score of 42-36. Walter Wellborn and Saks have met a total of 60 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 40-20-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2015 with Walter Wellborn winning by a score of 21-20. Walter Wellborn returns 3A All-State Senior athlete Jordan Montgomery.
